Colorado Nurses Association:challenges of new RN graduates

Posted over 14 years ago by Tony Volz

Colorado Nurses Association has been increasingly concerned with challenges new RN graduates have been experiencing in finding their first nursing positions. There is also concern with the potential this issue has to create a worsening of the nursing shortage in the future. We do believe the economic conditions are currently contributing to the problem in Colorado, but can foresee that as the economy improves and older more experienced nurses leave the workplace, there could be challenges in filling nursing positions. It is also concerning to lose potential entrants into the profession who may become discouraged or consider leaving our state. They are a valuable resource for Colorado health care.

Colorado Nurses Association has committed to taking direct action to try and help new RN graduates who have graduated within the last two years to find their initial positions. This effort is enabled by a funding grant from the Colorado Nurses Foundation.

A New RN Graduate Job Fair will be held on December 8th at the Aurora Summit Event Center ( 411 Sable Blvd) from 10AM to 2PM.

Your help is needed to:

1) Help notice RN graduates that may wish to attend the event. Please share this communication with nursing faculty and graduates.

2) Identify organizations/facilities that could commit to considering hiring new RN graduates to participate in the event

Please note that the attached flyer is requesting RSVPs for the attendees and also for the participating organizations.

Please help us send a message to our new nursing graduates that the nursing and health care community shares concern regarding their challenges at this time and is willing to take action to support them in their transition as nursing students to employed nurses. We need your participation to make this a successful event.

Organizations that have already committed to participate in the event include:

Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence

Colorado Hospital Association

Colorado Rural Health Center

Jobing, Inc.

Please contact Fran Ricker at franricker@nurses-co.org if you have a facility or organization that you think would be interested. There is no fee for attendees or participants. RN Graduates are asked to RSVP to dtrujillo@nurses-co.org if they plan to attend the event.
